2020 Les Cortis Mérune
Les Cortis is located in Savoie-Bugey, Rhone-Alpes, France. In 2016, Isabella and Jeremy Decosta Coiffier founded Les Cortis. Before starting Les Cortis, Jeremy worked with Agnes and Olivier De Moor, Lilian Diplessis before settling in the Bugey region. The six-hectare estate is cultivated by hand, biodynamic, organic and vegan. The terroir is limestone, marl/ granitic bedrock and stony soils. They primarily work with Mondeuse, Chardonnay, Gamay and Altesse. They recently added Pinot Noir, Corbeau and Chasselas.
This wine is a field blend of Chardonnay and Altesse (aka Roussette). Altesse is an indigenous varietal in Savoie. Lively and zippy but with substance. Chardonnay brings out body and roundedness, while Altesse brings out the minerality. This unique white has all the appeal of vines grown on cool alpine meadows. Both varietals are pressed together and spend ten months on lees prior to bottling. Isabelle is an artist and all the labels are made from her paintings!
Mérune is bursting with orchard fruits, citrus and almond. I think this wine would pair well with fish and chips! It would also be great with cheesy or creamy dishes with seafood or poultry- crab melts, chowder, chicken pot pie, lobster and cheese fondue!
