Anthonij Rupert Cape of Good Hope Caroline

Swartland, South Africa

50% Chenin Blanc | 22% Roussanne | 20% Viognier | 8% Marsanne

South Africa is producing some of my absolute favourite wines right now! There has been an emergence of high quality and great value wines which has made it an easy choice for me to pick the Cape of Good Hope Caroline white blend. Cape of Good Hope is 1 of 5 brands by Anthonij Rupert who used to be the richest man in South Africa before his passing in 2001.

The wine is a beautiful blend of Chenin Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier, and Marsanne from the Riebeeksrivier vineyard in the Swartland region. Grapes are hand harvested and whole-bunch pressed and the wine spends 7 months on the lees in stainless vats before bottling.

I feel that this wine is perfect for summer because it shows notes of citrus, stone fruits and vanilla. It’s well balanced, rich and gives off hints of fresh buttermilk biscuits. Caroline would pair great with poultry, Greek or light salads, feta and goat cheese.
