2017 Domaine Champalou Vouvray

Domaine Champalou had a humble beginning when Catherine and Didier Champalou rented 2 acres of vines in 1984 and started making their own wine. They now own over 50 acres of vineyards in Vouvray where they make a range of beautiful Chenin Blanc wines with help from their daughter Celine as well. Farming sustainably by only using natural products and interventions in the vineyard, they let the terroir shine through in their wines which are highly aromatic, fresh, elegant, and balanced while still showcasing great acidity that Vouvray (and Chenin Blanc) is known for.
The Champalou Vouvray is their entry level wine which is produced in a dry style but has a touch of residual sugar that helps keep it so well balanced. The grapes are harvested early in the cool morning and pressed immediately at the winery while fermentation occurs in stainless steel with subsequent aging in stainless on the fine lees for 11 months before bottling. This results in a wine that is clean and fresh with delicate aromas of fresh flowers, lemon, lime, ginger, and a touch of honey. On the palate it showcases a beautiful mineral streak and has great acidity and balance.
Vouvray is such a versatile wine and is perfect as an aperitif or paired with your main course. Try the Champalou Vouvray with roasted pork, turkey, grilled fish, a variety of cheeses, or with your favourite company!
