Aglianico Del Vulture - "Grifalco" 2013

Basilicata, Italy

Every wine has it's place, whether it be for a special occasion spent with the in-laws, or enjoying day old pizza watching Friends re-runs on Netflix in your underpants. Every now and then you stumble across a wine that simply fits the bill every time. This wine, to me, is exactly that.

Grown in the Basilicata region in Southern Italy, this 100% Aglianico soaks in all the heat from the generous Mediterranean sunshine and extracts beautiful minerality from the volcanic soil left by the once active Mt. Grifalco, creating some of the most charming and enjoyable deep red wines available in all of Italy.

Juicy notes of black cherry and crushed blackberries dominate the nose, but on the first sip you find will find more complex flavours of cocoa, leather and earth lingering on the palette. Dusty tannins keep the wine poignant and structured, allowing for a well-rounded marriage of everything that makes searching for an exceptional bottle of wine so satisfying.

So grab a bottle, invite the in-laws over for some cold pizza and throw on your classiest underpants, because the family circle is about to get even tighter!
