2015 Bodegas Arrayán La Suerte Garnacha

Méntrida, Spain

Now that the dog days of summer are behind us, I for one am very excited for cozy sweaters, earlier sunsets,  pumpkin- “everything”, and  beautiful red wines!

My “go-to” country for red wine is usually Spain, so it’s no surprise my fall pick is the 2015 Arrayan Le Suerte Garnacha. This wine comes from a very little-known region called Mentrida, practically smack-dab in the middle of the Spain. Even though it has a harsh climate (cold winters and long hot summers) they have been making wine here since the 1600’s. The region is mostly plantings of Garnacha (Grenache), so this blend stands out.

Bodegas Arrayan was established in 1999. The owners brought aboard a notable Australian viticulturalist to study their land and help them to determine what to plant. The first vintage was available in 2003 and they have been certified organic since 2016.

Being 100% Garnacha (aka Grenache), this wine is bold and yet elegant at the same time. Red berries, ripe plum, cigar box, spices and a round lasting finish thanks to the 12 months it spent in French oak – this wine has everything I’m looking for now that I’m ready to dust off the crockpot and braise some meat! Truth be told, this wine is also perfect when the kids are in bed and you finally have a moment to yourself!

Fun fact: You’ll often see the word Bodega on a Spanish wine label and it’s simply a generic term for ‘winery’.
